HOWARD ELLIOTT – BUCKINGHAM INTERIORS + DESIGN – ASPIRE JLD DETROIT SHOWHOUSE

HOWARD ELLIOTT – BUCKINGHAM INTERIORS + DESIGN – ASPIRE JLD DETROIT SHOWHOUSE

Detroit is a city teaming with history ranging from the motor industry, to design and of course, music. One place where you can really be transported back in time is the Charles T Fisher Mansion, one of the largest mansions in the Historic Boston-Edison District of Detroit, Michigan. As soon as you walk into the home and you are immersed in its own rich history. On a mission to revive the historical significance of this home are 40 notable interior designers & landscapers along with ASPIRE DESIGN & HOME and the Junior League of Detroit for this year’s Designer Showhouse.

One designer known for her talent of creating window into the past and a bridge to the future with her designs is Julia Buckingham. Julia and her team were fortunate enough to have hand selected the dining room of this amazing building.

“I was immediately drawn to the original ornate detailing in the room and wanted the challenge of bringing new life to a room that has been so loved and lived in for many years. “

— Julia Buckingham

From the moment Julia and her team entered the mansion, the home both looked and felt tired and gloomy. But the unique talent of interior designers is being able to see what others cannot. They could hear the call of the home to be revived! A plan began to take shape. Pulling from the already inspiring architectural style and history of the house and being where they were, “The City of Motown,” her inspiration for “A Rhapsody in Blues” was born! Adding in her signature Modernique® touch that defines her design philosophy of using both modern and antique elements, everything began to fall into place.

“The excitement that we have felt for the show house and its design inspiration on each of our visits into town have made us even more excited to participate. The reverence with which the Detroit community has for its new place on the map as a city resurrected is such a source of pride- no more gloomy old mansions here!”

— Julia Buckingham

To create both that window into the past and a bridge to the future, Julia looked to The Howard Elliott Collection to find the perfect finishing touch to make her vision become a reality!

We selected the Floating Mirrored Wall Shelf because I felt that they would speak to the formality of the estate while also reflecting a little bit of Motown funk. They truly were the perfect thing to display our vinyl record collection.
