LOOKING AHEAD: TRENDS FOR 2018

LOOKING AHEAD: TRENDS FOR 2018

The temps are starting to cool down, stores are displaying their fall and Halloween decor and…do you smell it? Pumpkin spice everything is wafting our way!

The start of a new season has us looking ahead to new Trends in Home Decor that we have our eye on. We anticipate these three trends will dominate the industry in the next few months.

VINTAGE INDUSTRIAL
Superior Mirror

Sounds like an oxymoron, right? Industrial is normally thought of as a more modern, contemporary look. So how can it also be vintage? Think those great Edison Lights, they make us think of the dawn of the industrial revolution. Coordinate that with brushed antiqued metal trims. Rich brass, bronze and iron finishes dominate.

FRENCH FARMHOUSE

This is not a new trend, but it is one that we see gaining strength all the time. White washed & distressed surfaces, neutral fabrics with pops of pinks and blues and antiqued accents all come together to create a warm and inviting setting where you can let go and really relax.

COASTAL RETREAT
Thornbury & Daydreamer Mirrors

This is a trend we see branching out further than the coasts. Not to be confused with beach decor, Coastal takes on a much more universal, less kitschy look; a mesh between Industrial and French Farmhouse, this trend features mixed materials such as wood & metals, rope details and sophisticated accents of sea life.

These are just a few of the many trends emerging this season. See them all at the upcoming High Point Market, October 14-18. Visit our showroom Howard Elliott Collection IHFC #H-224.

A LABOR OF LOVE

A LABOR OF LOVE

What do you think of when you think of Labor Day? Is it the official end of Summer? Is it BBQ’s? A coveted day off from work or school? It is actually much more than that. The US Department of Labor defines Labor Day as “…a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers.” You can read all about the roots of Labor Day here: History of Labor Day >

In honor of Labor Day, let’s talk about the labors of love that go into every product here at Howard Elliott…..

Quite often you might hear us talk about, or read in our descriptions that our products are hand finished. What exactly does that mean? A hand runs the machine that produces our product in the factory? NO!! It means exactly that! Each and every one of our mirrors, accessories, tables AND our pillows and slipcovers are either made by hand or hand finished.

Because of this, special nuances are inevitably worked into each piece, making every one unique, in its own way, from the rest.

You might think that our mirrored frames don’t technically have a finish and therefore don’t fall under this topic. But actually, each of those mirrored tiles are carefully hand placed and applied!

A true wonder is our new collection of Hand Painted Canvas Wall Art! These are NOT prints! Each and everyone is hand painted from begining to end!

When we say that our Custom Paint Mirrors are made to order, they truly are! These are not sitting on the shelf waiting to be shipped, when we get your order for a painted frame, it goes back to our paint department in our Chicagoland warehouse and they get to work.

Also created in our domestic factory are our slipcovered furniture, covers and pillows! Our expert craftsman build each piece and sew each cover just for you!

On this Labor Day week, we celebrate each and everyone of our team members that work hard to make the quality products that you expect from Howard Elliott.
